Ukraine has increased its own natural gas production by 7% over the past year. This was stated by the head of the board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, Alexey Chernyshev, on the air of the United News telethon, while at the forum “Formula for Success of Ukraine. Big day with NV.”
Our production is concentrated mainly in the Poltava and Kharkov regions, and we have not only maintained it, but also increased it. This allowed us to actually enter this winter without importing natural gas from other countries. For the first time in the history of Ukraine, such an event has occurred; we will get through this winter with the help of our own gas,” Chernyshev said.
Earlier, Chernyshev said that Ukraine expects to get through this winter using gas exclusively from its own production.
We do not plan additional imports; we must provide ourselves with Ukrainian-produced gas. And this will probably happen this winter. We assume an increase in the use (of gas) specifically for electricity generation. An appropriate reserve has been created for such risks, so we are ready for this,” Chernyshev said in an interview with Radio Liberty.
Chernyshev noted that Ukraine has the possibility of additional imports if needed, in particular, we will talk about European traders.
According to the head of the board of Naftogaz, 16 billion cubic meters of gas are currently stored in Ukrainian underground storage facilities.
2.4 billion cubic meters of these reserves are gas from foreign traders; they will not sell it to Ukraine. Another up to 1.5 billion cubic meters is gas from private Ukrainian production, and about 4.1 billion cubic meters is buffer gas necessary for the stable operation of storage facilities.
