The leader of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili is convinced that Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova will become EU members at the same time.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili believes that Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova will become members of the European Union at the same time. He said this in an interview with LCI, Georgia Online reports.
The presenter admitted that Georgia might join the EU later than Ukraine, to which Zurabishvili replied that accession would happen simultaneously.
“No, I think it will happen at the same time. Whether it will happen in 2030, 2031 or 2029, I don’t know, but this horizon is the next, as they say “big bangs”, the next which members We will bring together approximately. We are a trio, Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, and we created this trio,” said Zurabishvili.
He added that the idea of the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, about 2030 as a potential horizon for the new enlargement is “very interesting.”
“The successive unification of the candidate countries for the European Union according to the theme, on the issues on which they are ready, for example, transport for Georgia, transport and infrastructure in the Black Sea, is very interesting for us. Of course, there is no right to vote. But this preliminary integration will better prepare the candidates for what awaits them at the right moment,” said Zurabishvili.
Let’s recall that on November 8, the European Commission published its annual report on EU enlargement, in which it recommended that the European Council begin accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. The EC also recommended opening such negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina under certain conditions and granting candidate country status to Georgia.
President Vladimir Zelensky said Ukraine expects a political decision from the European Council in December.
