Israel will not agree to a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip until Hamas releases all hostages.
Thousands of civilians have been killed in Gaza. Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder said this on Monday, November 6, according to a Pentagon statement.
“This is why in our discussions with the Israelis and others in the region we have emphasized how important it is for people to receive humanitarian aid in Gaza,” Ryder said.
At the same time, the Pentagon noted that they operate with approximate numbers and cannot provide accurate information on the number of civilian deaths.
Earlier, the heads of the main UN humanitarian agencies, as well as international charities, called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Hamas attacks cannot justify “collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”
According to ABC News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will not agree to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip until Hamas releases hostages. At the same time, he said that “small tactical pauses are possible – an hour here, an hour there.” A general cease-fire, in his opinion, would hinder the release of captives and the war effort.
It will be remembered that on October 7, the Hamas group based in Gaza attacked Israel. More than 1,400 people were victims of this attack. In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched a military operation against Hamas.
On October 31, the Israel Defense Forces entered the third phase of the war against Hamas. The IDF has expanded its ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.
