The SAPO prosecutor requested custody of the former people’s representative with a bail of 134 million UAH, but the VAKS judge refused to use a pre-trial detention center for the suspect and ordered house arrest.
On November 6, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) specified house arrest as a preventive measure for former MP Maxim Mikitas, who is suspected of having embezzled more than 307 million UAH of funds from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. This was reported by the Anti-Corruption Center.
It was noted that the SAPO prosecutor requested to take the ex-citizen’s representative into custody with an alternative bail of 134 million UAH, but VAKS judge Oleg Tkachenko refused to use a pre-trial detention center for the suspect Mikitas and just ordered round-the-clock house arrests.
An appeal against this decision may still be filed with the HACC Appeals Chamber.
Let us remind you that the former MP, his assistant, three military personnel and the director of the company are aware of the suspicion of embezzlement of more than 307 million UAH of funds from the Ministry of Defense.
It was previously reported that developer Maxim Mikitas was detained after attempting to pay a record bribe of 22 million euros to Dnepr mayor Boris Filatov. The court then remanded former Town Deputy Mikitas in jail, but reduced his bail.
