If at the beginning of the war it was mainly about situational support, now planning is carried out for the long term.
Germany is determined to provide military support to Ukraine until 2030 and even beyond. Christian Freuding, head of the Special Staff for Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense, said this in an interview with the newspapers Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Nachrichten.
According to him, even with the outbreak of war in the Middle East, nothing changes for Germany: “We support both Ukraine and Israel, and this is understandable.”
However, as generally noted, the initial situation in both countries is fundamentally different.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces are just beginning to modernize, while the Israeli army is well-equipped, well-trained and ready to fight a daily war. Ukraine’s economic capabilities and its capabilities in Israel’s economy is completely different. In addition, the nature of others is war,” explained Freiding.
He noted that if at the beginning of the Great War it was mainly about situational support, now planning is carried out for the long term.
“Both in Ukraine and with our partners, we are talking about what the Ukrainian Armed Forces should be in the future. One thing is clear: military support for Ukraine is a task until the end of the decade, and even beyond . Our budget Planning already provides funds until 2032 year, which indicates our readiness,” said the general.
Freiding emphasized the need to help Ukraine build capabilities to remain an independent state capable of defending itself and deterring attackers.
“For me personally, the struggle for freedom cannot have a statute of limitations,” stressed the German general.
Let’s recall that Germany previously transferred the IRIS-TSLM anti-aircraft system to Ukraine. This year, Kyiv has already received military aid from Berlin in the amount of 5.4 billion euros.
It is also known that Germany is preparing a large military aid package for Ukraine for the winter season. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz estimated it at 1.4 billion euros. The package includes air defense systems, including the Patriot.
