Yle reported that the billionaire owns almost half of the plant that produced weapons for the Russian army.

Finnish law enforcement agencies conducted searches on the island of Kotasaari, owned by Russian billionaire Igor Kesaev. This was reported by the Finnish publication Yle.

“During the search of the premises, the bailiffs are looking for assets subject to seizure and freezing, as well as investigative materials. The Debt Collection Office has requested the Eastern Finland Police Department to to official assistance in carrying out the task,” said the head of the special unit of the National Law Enforcement Agency, Aki Virtanen. .

Kesaev was included in the EU sanctions list in April 2022, which was introduced in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Russians own almost half of the plant that produces weapons for the Russian army. He is suspected of having connections to the FSB of the Russian Federation, the media note.

The Russian billionaire bought the island of Kotasaari in southeastern Finland in 2020. The municipality of Puumala gave exclusive permission to build a private villa of 420 square meters on the island of Kotasaari.

Kesaev also obtained permission to build a guest house of 530 square meters and staff quarters of 150 square meters. However, the appearance of a helipad on the island came as a surprise to the municipality, as it was not mentioned in the coastal zone status plan.

As we wrote earlier, the European Union is discussing a new round of restrictions that will hit trade with the Russian Federation by nearly 5 billion euros.
