Vasily Nebenzya called on Israel to fight only terrorists, but at the same time forgot to clarify that Hamas militants are hiding in the cities of the Gaza Strip.
Israel allegedly has no right of self-defense in the war against the terrorist group Hamas. This statement was made by Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya in a speech at the session of the General Assembly of the world organization in Palestine, Russian media reported on Thursday, November 2.
According to him, all the United States and its allies can do is “insist that Israel supposedly has the right to self-defense, although as an occupying state it has no such right, as confirmed by the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice in 2004.”
At the same time, Nebenzya said that Russia recognizes Israel’s right to ensure its security, but “this can be fully guaranteed only if there is a fair solution to the Palestinian problem based on the well-known resolutions of the UN Security Council.”
“We do not deny Israel the right to fight terrorism. But fight terrorists, not civilians,” he said, forgetting to clarify that Hamas militants are hiding in the cities of the Gaza Strip.
Let’s remember that on October 7, Hamas militants carried out a massive rocket attack on Israel and entered its territory. In response, the Israeli army announced the start of Operation Iron Swords and attacked the group’s targets in the Gaza Strip.
The death toll in Israel exceeds 1,400, while the Gaza Strip claims more than nine thousand dead.
