The US has imposed sanctions on Russia in electronics in response to a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. These sanctions are aimed at limiting Russia’s access to advanced technologies.
Four Russians were arrested in a New York court. They were accused of conspiring to smuggle electronics from the United States to the Russian military. The US Department of Justice announced this on Wednesday, November 1.
The defendants reportedly illegally shipped precision weapons equipment to Russia that was used on the battlefield in Ukraine.
“Millions of dollars worth of semiconductors, integrated circuits and other dual-use electronic components were illegally exported to Russia through shell companies in Brooklyn,” the report said.
It is known that parts sent to the Russian Federation were found in seized Russian weapons platforms and electronic intelligence equipment in Ukraine.
“They made hundreds of deliveries worth more than $7 million,” the Justice Department said.
The Russians received orders from users in the defense and technology sectors that needed a part or item in the United States. Then, using pseudonyms, they contacted American manufacturers and distributors. They shipped goods to Brooklyn.
They then illegally shipped the goods to various intermediary corporations located in other countries, including Turkey, Hong Kong, India, China and the United Arab Emirates, where the goods ended up in Russia.
In Russia, employees of the Central Postal Customs detained an engineer who illegally sent abroad Russian military products worth 31 million rubles.
In Finland, on September 18, the court took custody of Gabriel Temin, who is suspected of violating the terms of the sanctions against Russia.
