For the past 48 days, Turkey and Russia have been in talks to move the headquarters of sanctioned companies from Europe to Istanbul.
Russian energy company Gazprom and dozens of other large businesses from Russia could move to Turkey in the coming months. Thus, they plan to avoid the sanctions imposed against them by the US and EU. This was reported by the publication Haberturk.
According to Cetiner Cetin, a journalist for the publication, over the past 48 days, Russia and Turkey have been actively discussing the transfer of Russian companies that have fallen under US and EU sanctions.
“According to the information I received, 43 Russian companies and oligarchs, including Gazprom, will move their headquarters from Europe to Istanbul,” Cetin said.
In addition, the journalist added, before the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Turkey, a Russian delegation arrived there to discuss the preliminary conditions for the transfer of offices of Russian companies from Europe.
The transition process will begin next month.
It will be recalled that former Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said he supported Russia’s request to remove some of the restrictions on the export of agricultural products. He believes that Russia has the right to demand the removal of restrictions on their exports in exchange for unblocking Ukrainian ports.
