The Strela long-range defense system was used to intercept a surface-to-surface missile that was launched into Israeli territory from the Red Sea area. A missile launched by the Yemeni Houthis was shot down. This was reported by the IDF press service.
Air Force detection systems tracked the missile’s flight path and intercepted it at the most appropriate operational time and place, the military noted.
The Ukrainian publication Defense Express writes that, apparently, the IDF was referring to the Arrow 3 missile defense system, which was used to intercept a missile launched by the Yemeni Houthis. It is noted that for the first time in world history, the most powerful air defense system was used in combat conditions.
The Israeli Arrow 3 missile defense system was created in close cooperation with the United States. This weapon operates on the principle of extra-atmospheric kinetic interception at a range of up to 2,400 km. And the radar, depending on the version, can identify a hostile target at a range of up to 500 or up to 900 km.
Let us remind you that the Yemeni Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack on the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat, which was carried out on October 31. The militants said they fired “a large batch of ballistic and cruise missiles and a large number of drones” at various Israeli targets and warned that they would do so further.
