The White House said it made clear how important aid to Kyiv is for US national security.
US President Joe Biden may veto a bill to aid Israel independently of Ukraine. White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby did not rule out this possibility. The official said this while answering questions during a briefing on Tuesday, October 31.
A White House spokesman avoided directly answering the question of whether Biden would be willing to use a veto if Congress votes on his budget bill, which excludes spending for Ukraine.
“I think we’ve made it very clear how deeply disruptive the House Republican bill is and how inadequate it is to meet our national security needs,” Kirby said.
He also noted that Biden, as commander in chief, will not do anything that does not meet the basic needs of US national security.
The Joe Biden administration has reportedly asked Congress to approve $106 billion in support for Ukraine, Israel, and other foreign aid, hoping that such a package deal would help approve the full amount.
At the same time, Congress wants to vote separately on such initiatives.
