Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis have been close to peace in the war since 2015, but Riyadh put the army on alert after the deaths of four of its soldiers.
The Saudi Arabian armed forces are on alert after clashes with the Yemeni militant group Ansar Allah (Houthis). Bloomberg reported this on Monday, October 30.
Four Saudi soldiers were reported killed last week in fighting with the Houthis in the southwestern province of Jazan on the border with Yemen.
The clashes occurred after the Houthis launched cruise missiles and drones at Israel on October 19, which, according to the publication, citing the Pentagon, were intercepted by an American destroyer in the Red Sea, as well as by Saudi air defenses.
Saudi Arabian troops were killed for the first time since last April, when Riyadh reached an initial truce with the Houthis. Before the escalation, the two sides were on the verge of an accord despite the deaths in September of four Bahraini officers serving in the Saudi coalition.
It was noted that protocols related to a heightened state of alert have been activated in all branches of the Saudi Arabian armed forces.
Saudi Arabian officials have warned the US that an Israeli ground operation in the Gaza Strip could be a disaster for the Middle East.
Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said Israel had “crossed red lines” with its actions, which could “force everyone to act.”
