The 77-year-old politician spoke these words the day before at a campaign rally in Iowa, mentioning his tenure as President of the United States.
I’m not going to protect them anymore. I remember how the head of one country stood up and said: “Tell me, if Russia attacks my country, you won’t be there?” That’s right, what I mean is, I won’t protect you or give you money,” Trump said to applause from those present.
Democrats have already said that these words indicate the Republican’s ties to the Kremlin.
When Trump was president, he constantly complained that US NATO partners, particularly Germany, were not contributing enough to the alliance’s budget compared to America. He claims that hundreds of billions of dollars have flowed into the NATO budget since his threats.
At the same rally in Iowa, Trump, during a speech to his supporters, said that Hungary has borders with both Ukraine and Russia. But this time he noted that Orban is still the leader of Hungary, not Turkey (last week the former US president was mistaken).
Hungary borders Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria. This country does not have a common border with the Russian Federation.
