The Israeli government says it takes attempts to harm Israeli citizens and Jews everywhere seriously.
Israel responded to the events in Russia’s Makhachkala by saying it expects law enforcement to ensure the safety of all Israeli citizens and Jews and to act decisively against rioters and wild incitement. This was reported by the Times of Israel in connection with the Prime Minister’s Office and the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
“Israel takes seriously attempts to harm Israeli citizens and Jews everywhere,” the statement said.
It was also reported that Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alex Ben Zvi is working to ensure the safety of the plane’s passengers.
An Israeli security official told the outlet that “a limited number of Israelis and Jews are currently isolated and under guard at the airport.”
“We are working hard to ensure that they get a connecting flight to Moscow as soon as the conditions allow,” he added.
According to the official, the Israeli security services and the Israeli ambassador are cooperating with “local security authorities.”
We remind you that hundreds of people entered the Makhachkala airport because of the arrival of a Red Wings flight from Tel Aviv, which allegedly brought refugees from Israel to Dagestan. A crowd of people broke down the doors of the airport area, looking for Jews. The men stopped cars leaving the airport and checked their passports. The police did not interfere with the crowd in any way. They only called through a megaphone to avoid pogroms and blocking the roads, and also said that they understood those gathered and were ready to “stand and sing” with them.
