Even if the world security situation worsens, aid to Ukraine will continue, they stressed in Berlin.
NATO countries must be prepared for aggression from Russia. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this on Friday, October 27, during a visit to the Bundeswehr command academy in Hamburg, as quoted by Ukrinform.
“NATO allies must be ready to fight a possible threat from Russia,” he urged.
Pistorius noted that the defense of the Alliance countries must be strengthened again after a break of more than 30 years.
“Again, unfortunately, the strategy of deterrence and protection will take effect. We will be ready for it,” he said.
The minister noted that Germany will station part of its troops in Latvia and should take an international lead.
At the same time, the head of the department emphasized that “even if the security situation in the world worsens, aid to Ukraine will continue.”
“We will be concerned about Israel and, accordingly, the situation in the Middle East, but we will not stop supporting Ukraine. This war will not be forgotten,” the minister concluded.
Ukraine received a new military aid package from Germany. Its main highlight is the IRIS-T SLM medium-range anti-aircraft missile system.
Earlier, Scholz called for an end to the war on Ukraine’s terms. The Chancellor believes that Vladimir Putin started the war to satisfy his own unhealthy ambitions.
