Ignatius said during the telethon on Thursday that he was also surprised by the information about the scale of the destruction.
It looks scary on the scale of a small city… But the damage is significant, large. “We probably need to explain,” said the PS representative.
Reports from local authorities about large destruction in the cities of Slavuta and Netishin in the Khmelnitsky region after the downing of Russian attack drones may be associated with the effect of the blast wave resulting from the air battle, as well as with the peculiarities of the count of damaged houses, Novynarnya writes.
Answering the question why such heavy damage was recorded in Slavuta and whether there was a direct hit there, Colonel Ignat said:
When a “martyr” or rocket is shot down, an explosion occurs in the air. An anti-aircraft missile explodes. And the very ammunition that was sent to us explodes. Accordingly, windows may be damaged by the blast wave. You know from the capital, from Odessa, from the different cities where it arrived – the chances are very small at the windows. Therefore, they need to be sealed with tapes. So that splinters do not hit people.
If “shaheds” or missiles, even a small number of them, fall into the air defense zone in a populated area where there are many residential buildings, there is a blast wave and debris that returns to the ground. That is why the authorities and the military are asking people to take shelter.
Ignat suggests that the count of destruction in Slavuta may be explained by the intentions of local authorities to obtain adequate funding for the repair of damaged buildings.
Everyone views targets differently. Perhaps financial support should be given to managers who talk about this. Therefore, we must treat incoming information with understanding and not scare people with scary numbers. And then there were 11 suicide bombers, and not all of them made it to the Khmelnytsky region, [а такі значні наслідки щодо руйнувань]- said the Air Force speaker.
“Novinarnya” notes that, reacting to a remark about the fact that Russian drones were shot down over a small town, and that is why many houses were damaged, Ignat explained why the destruction of air targets occurs mainly in populated areas.
Where we succeed, we shoot down. The target must be identified, escorted, carried away by the missile, and then defeat begins. And where this will happen is the lottery. Because we cannot place air defense too far in front of cities. Otherwise the radius will be increased. Accordingly, funds [протиповітряної оборони] “It’s not enough for anything,” said a PS representative.
Therefore, the facilities that exist in the Khmelnitsky region, in particular the nuclear power plant, will be protected more locally. In other words, there is greater saturation around these facilities and the cities that support them.
This is not the first time that the enemy has attacked nuclear power plants – not the power units themselves, but the substations that ensure their (nuclear power plant) operation. On which the vital activity of nuclear power units, security systems, cooling, etc. depends. Therefore, we have repeatedly noted to our Western colleagues that the enemy commits such provocations by attacking substations of nuclear facilities,” added Ignat.
Let us recall that on the night of October 25, Russian troops attacked the Khmelnytsky region with attack drones of the Shahed-136/131 type. The Ukrainian Air Force announced the destruction of all 11 drones. Some of the suicide bombers were shot down near the city of Slavuta, 15 km from the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant.
Large explosions were heard and seen in the cities of Slavuta and Netishin. As a result of the explosions, 1,760 infrastructure facilities were damaged in the region, as stated by the first deputy head of the Khmelnitsky Regional Police Department, Sergei Tyurin. According to these data, as a result of the explosions, the following were damaged: 282 apartment buildings, 1,404 private houses, 74 infrastructure facilities (educational – 41; healthcare – 6; cultural institutions – 14; churches – 2).
