Earlier, Brussels promised to provide Ukraine with artillery ammunition within 12 months. Part of the EU countries had to be allocated from their own reserves, and the rest due to contracts for joint procurement and increase in industrial capacity. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with this issue.
It is noted that more than half of this time has already passed, but the plan is only 30% fulfilled. Europe risks not achieving its goal based on the volume of contracts signed. Sources with knowledge of the matter note that several EU member states have privately asked the bloc’s foreign policy department to extend the deadline.
Meanwhile, the United States called on the European Union to step up its efforts to produce artillery shells. The United States planned to increase its own production to approximately 1 million shells per year by 2024.
In addition, Bloomberg writes that additional risks of arms supplies to Ukraine arose due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Let us recall that The New York Times reported that the United States will transfer to Israel tens of thousands of 155-mm artillery shells promised to Ukraine.
