Australia has sent troops to the Middle East to help evacuate its citizens.
Australia has sent aircraft and military troops to the Middle East amid growing concerns about Australian citizens in the region and in case the situation worsens. The BBC reported it.
It was noted that two C-130J Super Hercules military transport aircraft are being sent in addition to the C-17A Globemaster heavy transport aircraft and KC-30 aerial tanker, which are already in the Middle East.
Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles also noted that we are talking about sending “significant numbers” of troops, but did not specify exactly how many troops will be sent in the near future and where they will be located.
“This is a significant number of personnel and they are there to support the aircraft and to support whatever the aircraft may eventually do,” the minister said.
Marles emphasized that the role of the military is to help evacuate Australians from the conflict zone.
There are currently 79 Australians unable to leave the Gaza Strip, with a further 51 in the West Bank.
It will be recalled that because of the Hamas attack on Israel, the United States moved 3,000 troops to the Middle East and sent its aircraft carrier group to the eastern Mediterranean.
The Pentagon also sent a second carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean off the coast of Israel to prevent Iran or Hezbollah from joining the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
