The Financial Times reports this.
The AIM-9M missiles were decommissioned and converted to launch from the ground for the needs of Ukrainian air defense.
We remade them. We found a way to launch them from the ground. This is a kind of homemade air defense,” an unnamed Ukrainian official told the publication.
According to him, this is one example of the conversion of seemingly unnecessary equipment to used weapons.
We have an agreed solution: we take something outdated and do something else,” the official noted.
Recycled missiles will help Ukraine survive the winter, saving its energy infrastructure from possible Russian attacks.
