All three members of the enemy group, who were correcting artillery and missile and bomb attacks on the city, were detained. The press service of the SBU and the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported this today, October 23.
It is noted that the attackers corrected more than one enemy shelling in Kherson, as a result of which civilians were injured.
It was according to their coordinates that at the end of September this year, the invaders completely destroyed two private residential buildings in the regional center and damaged five more, the SBU notes. — As a result of enemy shelling, about 10 civilians received injuries of varying severity.
According to the investigation, the organizer and leader of the local anti-Ukrainian underground was a former businessman who, after the capture of the city, went over to the enemy’s side and got a job as a “master” at the occupation Kherson Railway, where he carried out technological work for the movement of trains with Russian military equipment.
While working for the invaders, the collaborator came to the attention of the Russian FSB, which soon recruited him.
After the liberation of the city, the traitor “lay low” for a while, but in July 2023, on his own initiative, he established a remote connection with his “curator” from the temporarily occupied left bank of the Kherson region and received a task from him. In particular, he conveyed to the invaders:
- information on the deployment and movement of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other defense forces;
- information about the evacuation of civilians in the Kherson region.
He involved his own sister and another acquaintance in his illegal activities. The informants sent text messages through the Telegram application and also made phone calls, the prosecutor’s office noted.
After creating the enemy group, its members began to determine the coordinates of compact development and residence of citizens on the territory of Kherson. They were also interested in the main bases and movement routes of the Defense Forces in the city and its environs.
The Russians needed this information to carry out massive attacks on the liberated city using missiles, guided bombs, cannon artillery and MLRS.
During a search of the detainees’ places of residence, the following was discovered:
- binoculars, mobile phones, computers used by them in criminal activities;
- pro-Kremlin symbols;
- Russian rubles, which they received for cooperation with the occupiers.
The perpetrators are in custody. This moment:
- The group leader was notified of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (state treason committed under martial law), he faces life imprisonment;
- two of his accomplices are suspected under Part 2 of Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code (unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons, weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine).
The investigation is ongoing.
