Georgia’s ruling party has sanctioned Zurabishvili, who cannot be impeached
Georgia’s parliamentary majority will not follow certain rituals regarding President Salome Zurabishvili, who cannot be impeached. This was said by the leader of Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze, SOVA reports.
“Salome Zurabishvili is an official who violates the Constitution. Of course, it will be difficult for us to do the rituals we did before. Like, for example, greeting, standing at the entrance to the session hall of the parliament and so on. ,” he said.
The politician said that Zurabishvili is “only a formal president”, therefore “such rituals will not be performed.”
Georgian Dream MPs did not give Zurabishvili a standing ovation when the president appeared to discuss his impeachment in parliament last week.
We remind you that the impeachment of Zurabishvili failed in the Georgian parliament. Georgian Dream did not get the required 100 votes. The dismissal of Zurabishvili was supported by 86 deputies, one voted against. According to the rules of Georgia’s parliament, he cannot impeach the president a second time.
They tried to impeach Zurabishvili due to the fact that, despite the lack of government permission, he went on a foreign tour to achieve the granting of candidate status to Georgia to join the European Union. According to Georgian rules, the president is obliged to obtain the government’s permission for this. The Constitutional Court found that Zurabishvili violated the constitution with his actions.
