The bulk of the war between Hamas and Israel is taking place in the Gaza Strip, but tensions are rising both on the northern border with Lebanon and to the east in the West Bank.

On Saturday, October 21, at least three incidents occurred in the north. The Israeli military said air and ground forces carried out strikes on positions from which rockets were fired towards Israel.
Lebanese territories are controlled by the Iran-backed Shiite group Hezbollah. Sunni Palestinian Hamas hopes Hezbollah will open a second front against Israel.
Meanwhile, clashes between Palestinians and Israelis continue in the West Bank. The West Bank is controlled by the moderate Fatah, from which radical Islamists Hamas conquered another Palestinian territory, the Gaza Strip, a decade and a half ago.
On Saturday, Israeli troops carried out a raid in the West Bank. The target was the home of Hamas deputy head Saleh al-Arouri, who lives in Lebanon. As a result, his relatives and “dozens of Hamas members” were arrested, the Israeli army said.
Al-Arouri is a deputy to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. He spent almost 20 years in Israeli prisons and was released in 2010 in exchange for a promise to go into exile. Since that time, al-Arouri has been accused several times of organizing attacks against Israel.
On October 21, Israel imposed a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, said Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari.
Israel is prepared to move to a ground operation in Gaza at a time of its choosing and will continue until its objectives are achieved. IDF fighters are also prepared for any scenario; troops in the north of the country respond to Hezbollah attacks with fire. Citizens of 42 countries were kidnapped during the Hamas attack; we do not rule out the release of the hostages by military means. The Israel Defense Forces say it is continuing to prepare for an expected ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, and plans to expand the fighting have been approved in recent days. The troops are currently conducting training in accordance with approved operational plans, Hagari said.
