This was reported by The Washington Post.
Journalists gained access to audio and video recordings where Musaev says that he bought “global Forbes.”
The recordings were allegedly made a few days before the businessman’s 60th birthday party.
I just bought global Forbes. You understand, when you have the key to the world’s most authoritative brand in your hands, this key will give me access to anyone,” Musaev says on one of the recordings.
According to the recordings, Musayev repeated this “over and over again,” The Washington Post writes. In one of them, he mentions American entrepreneur Austin Russell and calls him the face of the deal.
Musaev allegedly insisted that his participation in the deal not be mentioned. In the spring of 2023, Russell said he was buying a controlling stake in Forbes for $800 million.
Previously, Musaev officially became the owner of the Russian division of the business magazine.
Also in the conversation, he mentions Austin Russell, who has officially been the owner of a controlling stake in the magazine since May 2023. According to Musaev, he is simply the “face” of the agreement.
Journalists turned to Russell for comment, but he called the involvement of Russians in the purchase of the media holding “absolute nonsense.”
Musaev became the owner of Russian Forbes in 2018. Before joining the business, he, in particular, held the position of General Director of the All-Russian Exhibition Center for five years, and was also the Chairman of the Committee for Innovative Development and Exhibition and Congress Activities in Moscow.
Musaev is the son-in-law of the former head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov. The Washington Post calls Musaev a businessman “connected to the Kremlin.”
