Now the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, together with partners from the Netherlands, is holding a number of events aimed at the speedy return of the collection of artifacts to Ukraine. Scythian gold in 2014 is located in the Netherlands. This was stated by the acting Minister of Culture Rostislav Karandeev, the press service of the MCIP reports.
Let us remind you that on June 9, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands decided to return the “Scythian gold” to Ukraine. It confirmed the decision of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal as of October 2021.
Gold was taken from four museums in Crimea to an exhibition in the Netherlands precisely on the eve of the annexation of the peninsula by Russia. After the occupation, part of the collection belonging to the Crimean museums was claimed by the aggressor country. Ukraine, for its part, stated that the exhibits cannot be returned to the occupied territory, which is temporarily not under Ukrainian control and must be transferred directly to Ukraine.
Legal battles over the treasures raged for almost nine years. The case involved more than 565 items worth about 10 million euros.
