Europe could do without Russian gas, even in a harsh winter, if the heating of homes was reduced by only two degrees. This was announced by the head of the International Energy Agency Fatih Birol, speaking in Denmark at the annual global conference on energy efficiency organized by the IEA, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“We calculate that if European consumers reduce the temperature in their homes by two degrees, we will save 20 billion cubic meters, which is equivalent to the flow of natural gas from Russia to Europe via the Nord Stream,” the leader. said the IEA.
Fatih Birol recalled that this summer, against the background of increased demand during the tourist season, a difficult situation may arise in the market of oil products, but even in this case, you can save.
“Simply reducing the speed limit by 10 km/h will save us 500 thousand barrels of oil per day, which is almost equivalent to the monthly increase in production of OPEC+countries,” Birol said.
The IEA chief stressed that proper government policy could make it possible, even without new technologies, to save energy over the next seven years, equivalent to China’s total energy consumption.
Recall that Ukraine is in talks with the United States on gas supplies for the heating season.
