Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has signed a law denouncing the Council of Europe for the Protection of National Minorities. The document was published on the portal of legal information of the Russian Federation.
The law was introduced by Putin at the end of September. On October 10, the State Duma adopted it, and the next day the text of the bill was approved by the Federation Council.
As noted in the explanatory note here, the Council of Europe in September 2022 “significantly limited the powers of the Russian expert in the Advisory Committee.” Russia lost the opportunity to participate in decisions and monitor cases of violations of the rights of minorities, “mainly the Russian-speaking population.”
We remind you that the Russian Federation and Belarus are not included in the international tax organization IOTA.
It was also reported that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe expelled Russia from the organization.
