The president of Poland was supposed to tour with his Slovak counterpart, but he contracted the coronavirus.
Polish President Andrzej Duda began touring Europe in support of granting the status of a candidate for European Union membership for Ukraine. This was reported by the Office of the Polish President on Wednesday, June 8th.
Along with Duda, Slovakian President Zuzana Chaputova was supposed to take part in the trip, but she was diagnosed with the coronavirus.
Duda’s tour will start in Portugal, then visit Italy and Romania, where he will take part in the Bucharest Nine summit.
In addition to discussing the prospects for Ukraine’s membership in the EU, Duda plans to discuss the issue of food exports from Ukraine to Portugal and Italy.
“We will talk about how to create international pressure for it (grain export) to be successful, and how to overcome this problem,” he explained.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that in order to obtain the status of a candidate for EU membership, Ukraine needs to overcome the psychological barrier of some countries.
Recall that the heads of EU countries plan to consider the application for membership of Ukraine at the summit at the end of June.
