At 20.23, the Hamas press service confirmed the “arrival” at the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza.
The Gaza Strip reports that the Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital was hit by an Israeli airstrike.
A Gaza health official said the death toll was estimated at at least 200, but that information had not yet been confirmed.
Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital is located in the central part of the Gaza Strip.
Hamas representatives say there could be hundreds of victims under the rubble; Arab media reported that there could be half a thousand.
Israeli media write that it was a missile from Hamas terrorists that misfired and hit a hospital in Gaza, where the secret ammunition was detonated.
A British Palestinian surgeon, Professor Ghassan Abu Sitta, said he was operating at the hospital when the airstrike occurred. He says part of the hospital is on fire.
An Israeli army spokesman said reports of a possible Israeli airstrike were being looked into, but no information was available yet. According to him, at the time of the conversation he did not have information whether this was an Israeli air raid.
US President Joe Biden is due to arrive in Israel on October 18.
