The European Commission responded by assuming that the European Union would be forced to choose who to help.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the situation in the Middle East will not force the EU to interfere in helping Ukraine, which the European community will support as long as necessary. Von der Leyen said this at a press conference following the EU’s virtual summit focused on the situation in the Middle East, Ukrinform reports.
“Let me make an important point. Some are convinced that they can distract us from supporting Ukraine, and we will be forced to choose who to help. We will prove them wrong. We will stand by our friends as long as necessary . It is important that our proposal for (clarification – ed.) the multi-year budget of the EU has been implemented, and the large amount of aid for Ukraine is already in the process of preparation, because we know that they fighting for our values, we will stand by them as long as it is necessary,” the head of the European Commission emphasized.
As reported, on Tuesday the European Parliament supported the European Commission’s initiative to create a Ukraine Assistance Fund worth 50 billion euros over the next four years.
We remind you that the European Union has provided Ukraine with various aid worth 81 billion euros since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression. By 2023, EU financial aid for Ukraine alone will have reached 13.5 billion euros.
