This was discussed during a meeting of the US Special Representative for Economic Recovery of Ukraine Penny Pritzker with NABU Director Semyon Krivonos and SAPO head Alexander Klimenko, the NABU press service reports.
The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Bridget Brink and Senior Advisor to the US Secretary of State Ned Price.
It is noted that the main topic of the conversation was the risks and challenges facing NABU and SAP. During the meeting, the heads of Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies spoke about the legislative initiatives necessary for the effective operation of the institutions. In particular:
- increasing the Bureau’s staff by 300 employees, in particular with the aim of strengthening the presence of NABU in the regions;
- creation of an expert institution under the Bureau and implementation of the NABU’s right to independent listening;
- the need to cancel the so-called “Lozovoi amendments”;
- improvement of the extradition mechanism;
- strengthening the institutional capacity of NABU and SAP in general.
US President Joe Biden in September appointed Pritzker as special envoy for Ukraine’s economic recovery. In her role, she will work with the Ukrainian government, the G7, the EU, international financial institutions, international partners and the American private sector.
