BERLIN (AP) – At least one person was killed and at least eight others were injured when a man struck a pedestrian in a popular shopping district in Berlin on Wednesday, rescuers said.
The man struck people on the street corner at 10:30 a.m. before the vehicle returned to the road and then crashed out of the store window, police spokesman Tillo Kablitz said.
Fire brigade spokesman Stefan Zaltsvedel estimated the number of injured at eight. More than a dozen were injured, police said. According to police, many of them are in critical condition.
The driver was immediately arrested and questioned, Kablitz said. He said police are trying to determine if he intentionally ran into pedestrians if it was an accident that could have been caused by an ambulance.
