The Vientuli and Pededze checkpoints have ceased operations due to restrictions imposed by Russia on Ukrainian citizens.
Latvia on Monday, October 16, closed two checkpoints on the border with Russia – Vientuli and Pededze. The Delfi portal reported this with reference to the LETA agency.
It was noted that the situation at the Vientuli checkpoint was calm; there are concrete border barriers.
People stuck at the checkpoint will be taken by bus to the nearest checkpoint in Grebnevo (Ubylinka on the Russian side). After that, only the border guards will remain in Vientuli.
We remind you that the Latvian government has decided to close the Vientuli and Pededze checkpoints from October 16.
This step was taken in response to restrictions imposed by Russia on Ukrainian citizens entering its territory from the territory of third countries.
Now Ukrainians can only enter the Russian Federation through the checkpoint at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport.
Latvia may deport more than 3,000 Russian citizens
