Turkey has set rules for Sweden and Finland for NATO membership – media

Both countries must keep their distance from terrorist organizations and support Ankara in the fight against terrorism.

Turkish authorities have set ten conditions for Sweden and Finland in response to the removal of the veto on their NATO membership, Yeni Şafak reports.

While discussing the membership of Sweden and Finland, which have adopted a terrorist organization, in NATO, Turkey does not want the two countries to become members of NATO without alienating terrorist organizations.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: “The continued refusal to discuss our relationship with the terrorist organizations of those who have suggested that we be flexible in expanding NATO justifies our firm position.”

Both countries have been asked to support Ankara in its fight against the banned Kurdistan Workers ’Party (PKK) in Turkey and the organization of Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen and their affiliates.

At the same time, it said that Sweden and Finland, which are supporters of terrorist organizations, should establish the necessary legal standards and legal infrastructure to fight terrorism.

At the same time, countries must stop trying to open PKK offices in their countries. Also, Turkey proposed not to allow FETÖ activities to be conducted in the countries and close the associated website and media outlets.

In addition, Sweden and Finland should pay attention to the deportation and extradition of people associated with terrorism. Also, Stockholm and Helsinki should impose a ban on demonstrations by terrorist organizations such as the PKK. Turkey also invited Sweden and Finland to remove restrictions on the defense industry against it, and also asked to share intelligence.

The publication stressed that if Sweden and Finland become NATO members, they must fulfill these obligations.

It will be recalled that former Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey would not change its position upon Sweden and Finland’s entry into NATO. The Turkish side will not give its consent until the Scandinavian countries refuse to cooperate with PKK representatives.
