The introduction of a “serious threat” regime would allow authorities to employ more law enforcement officers.
France, in connection with the terrorist attack on a school in which a French teacher was killed, has moved into a heightened terrorist threat mode. Le Figaro wrote this on Friday, October 13.
It has been suggested that French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne ordered the intelligence services to raise the emergency level of “severe threat” after a security meeting at the Elysee Palace. This means that intelligence agencies can act immediately at their discretion after a terrorist or other attack or its high probability.
The immediate reason for this step was an attack on a school in Arras, according to preliminary information, by a supporter of radical Islam of Chechen origin, in which a teacher was killed and two other people were seriously injured .
As French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin told TF1, the possibility of terrorist groups becoming more active in the country has increased because of Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
“Since Saturday, 12 people have been arrested and are preparing to take action,” the minister said.
According to him, French security services have recently prevented 43 terrorist attacks.
He added that law enforcement officers have now wiretapped six thousand people and, if necessary, will deport them.
In the French city of Arras, a man armed with a knife entered the local lyceum and killed a teacher and injured several other people.
Let’s remember that in October 2020, a Chechen beheaded a history and geography teacher in the city of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine in France.
