The SBU from the DBI detained two fraudsters who were trying to defraud a candidate for the position of rector of one of the Vinnytsia institutions of higher education.

The press services of the SBU and DBR reported this today, October 12.
It is noted that for 50 thousand dollars. US scammers promised to help the candidate with appointment to a leadership position at this university. During the conversation with the victim, they introduced themselves as officials from “anti-corruption agencies”:
- one of the defendants introduced himself as the head of the so-called “separate unit of the anti-corruption committee in the Vinnytsia region”;
- the other is the head of the fictitious “anti-corruption committee at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.”
At the same time, they had nothing to do with the work of anti-corruption bodies or the Verkhovna Rada.
To resolve the issue, the scammers assured that they would allegedly involve their connections in the highest authorities, the SBU notes.
It is noted that the woman verbally expressed interest in the proposal, but immediately turned to law enforcement officers.
One of the attackers was detained when he received the first part of the “agreed” amount of 20 thousand dollars. USA. His accomplice was subsequently detained.
Currently, the detainees have been reported on suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code:
- Part 4 Art. 190 (fraud committed on an especially large scale or by an organized group of persons);
- Part 4 Art. 27 and part 3 of Art. 369 (offering, promising or providing an undue benefit to an official).
The perpetrators are in custody and face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
