This was stated by the first vice speaker from the ruling Georgian Dream party.
According to the official, his country “is in a very difficult situation under the conditions of Russia’s occupation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia” – therefore, adopting a resolution “would be a provocation,” writes Radio Liberty.
He also added that the words of the “president” of self-proclaimed Abkhazia do not yet mean the creation of a naval base there. Like, Moscow made similar statements 14 years ago.
At the same time, a number of opposition deputies prepared a draft resolution condemning Russia’s occupation of part of the sovereign territory of Georgia.
Russia plans to create a naval base on the territory of Russian-occupied Abkhazia.
The leader of the unrecognized republic, Aslan Bzhania, stated this in an interview with the Russian propaganda publication Izvestia.
According to him, an agreement between Russia and the occupied part of Georgia has already been signed, so a permanent base for the Russian fleet on the territory of Abkhazia will appear in the near future.
Russia occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia and recognized their fake “independence” in 2008.
