The Counterintelligence of the Security Service, as a result of a multi-stage special operation in Odessa, detained a Russian agent who was correcting enemy air attacks on the city and reconnaissance of Defense Force locations in region. The SBU press service reported this on October 9.
It was noted that to hide the criminal activity, the attacker joined the ranks of the local volunteer rescue squad.
“It was established that, under the guise of a rescuer, he arrived at the landing sites, ostensibly to remove the rubble, but in fact he recorded the consequences of the enemy’s attacks and reported it in the military intelligence of the Russian Federation,” the intelligence service emphasized.
In addition, the Russian agent tried to identify the combat positions of HIMARS systems and air defense systems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the front-line areas of the region.
According to the investigation, the enemy henchman turned out to be a 29-year-old resident of Odessa, who was once part of the local cell of the so-called “Leninist Communist Youth League.”
He was also the “connector” of the FSB special forces agent, who was removed by the SBU from Transnistria and detained in the Odessa region.
“In May 2014, the man actively participated in inciting mass riots in the regional center. And at the beginning of the mass invasion of the Russian Federation, he subscribed to the enemy’s Telegram channel, which collected information about the deployment of Ukrainian troops. for Russian intelligence… After the recruitment, the resident of Odessa received further instructions and began to carry out the tasks of the enemy,” the SBU clarified.
The Russian agent was informed of the suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code), and he was in custody.
The attacker faces life in prison.
