Officers from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have been working with Palestinian militants since August to develop plans for a series of air, land and sea incursions. The details of the deal were clarified during several meetings in Beirut, including with the Lebanese Hezbollah. The invasion was launched in early October. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal.
According to US officials, the Americans have not yet found any evidence of Tehran’s involvement in the invasion. However, a European official and an adviser to the Syrian government confirmed information about Iran’s participation in preparations for the attack.
The WSJ writes that Iran’s direct involvement would bring Tehran’s ongoing conflict with Israel out of the shadows, raising the risk of wider conflict in the Middle East. The IRGC planned to pose a threat to Israel on several fronts.
Sources also claim that Iranian authorities have postponed other regional conflicts, including the confrontation with Saudi Arabia in Yemen. This was done in order to direct the resources of the IRGC to coordinate, finance and arm Hamas and Hezbollah.
Let us recall that DW reported that the sudden and successful attack of Hamas terrorists on Israel on the first day could become one of the biggest failures of Israeli intelligence since the Yom Kippur War of 1973.
