The United States of America is considering the option of a trilateral exchange of air defense systems between NATO, Poland and Ukraine. Warsaw, as an ally in the North Atlantic Alliance, may receive American Iron Dome systems. In this case, the Polish side will transfer part of its Patriots to Ukraine. Politico writes about this.
It is noted that Washington began to consider this issue after Israel rejected the request of the American and Ukrainian sides to transfer the Iron Dome to Kyiv.
As you know, the Iron Dome is a mobile air defense system developed by the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. The development of the dome was also carried out with US funds in the amount of $200 million. Its mission is to protect the country from ballistic and cruise missiles, shells and other airborne threats.
This system can intercept and destroy tactical unguided rockets and artillery shells fired from a distance of 4 to 70 km with a trajectory that could threaten populated areas. And since 2015, the Iron Dome has been trained to destroy mobile drones and aircraft at an altitude of up to 10 km.
Recall that Germany plans to supply Ukraine with additional air defense systems to help protect grain supplies from potential Russian attacks. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive one additional IRIS-T air defense system and more than 10 Gepard anti-aircraft guns.
