The parties will discuss bilateral relations, including trade imbalances, as well as foreign policy issues.
The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, will finally travel to China next week, where he plans to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Europa Press reported, citing the European sources.
It is known that Borrell’s visit will take place from October 12 to 14. In China, he will co-chair a meeting of the EU-China Strategic Dialogue, which is intended to discuss bilateral relations and foreign policy issues.
The parties will also discuss the trade imbalance between the EU and China, which has worsened almost three times since 2016 and which Brussels considers the main problem of bilateral relations.
As you know, this will be Borrell’s first visit to China after assuming the position of EU diplomacy chief. He is expected to “pave the way” for an EU-China summit before the end of this year.
In April, Borrell’s trip to China was reportedly postponed due to his positive coronavirus test, and a visit in July was unexpectedly canceled without explanation.
