This was announced by First Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Gix in an interview with Bloomberg.
According to her, Washington is considering options for extending aid to Ukraine, even if Congress does not approve the latest proposal from President Joe Biden’s administration. Gix indicated that for now the Pentagon is not considering the possibility of “reprogramming” money allocated to other areas, but is focusing on adopting a new budget for the 2024 fiscal year.
Let us remind you that the US Congress did not include new funding for assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the interim budget law. This issue will be considered separately. The House of Representatives also dismissed pro-Ukrainian Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Against the background of these events, the US Department of Defense warned Congress about possible problems with the supply of weapons to Ukraine. According to Politico, Biden is looking for alternative ways to finance assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
