The recommendation is set out in a new report on the situation of human rights in Ukraine for the period from February 1 to July 31, 2023.
The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine recommends that the Ukrainian authorities review the cooperation law, taking into account the provisions of international humanitarian law and the realities of life under occupation. The head of the mission, Danielle Bell, announced this, writes Ukrinform.
It is reported that the recommendation is set in a new report on the situation of human rights in Ukraine for the period from February 1 to July 31, 2023.
During the presentation of the report, Danielle Bell noted that in the occupied territories, the Ukrainian authorities opened almost 6,000 criminal cases against people accused of collaborating with the occupation authorities.
“Our monitoring shows that many detained and even convicted citizens have been targeted for activities that, according to international humanitarian law, the occupying power, in principle, could make mandatory. This applies to individuals working to ensure the continued operation of social services and schools, ” – said the head of the mission.
Daniel Belle argues that mission interviewees often state that they agreed to work only after threats from the occupation authorities, and also describes an atmosphere of widespread fear during the occupation, which further exacerbated by their separation from territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.
We remind you that earlier the SBU was collecting evidence against the head of the occupation “DPR media holding” Roman Besedin. He positions himself as one of the Kremlin’s main spokesmen in temporarily occupied Donetsk and publicly calls for the physical destruction of the entire Ukrainian people.
