With Ukraine firing thousands of shells every day, most of them from NATO, stockpiles are dwindling fast.
Western countries are running out of ammunition supplies that could be given to Ukraine. Therefore, the ramp-up of production needs to be accelerated. This was said by the head of NATO’s military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, CNN reports.
He noted that ammunition stocks of NATO countries “have reached the bottom” and production needs to be increased to help the Ukrainian military at the front.
“The bottom is now visible. We need the industry to ramp up production at a faster pace,” Bauer said.
The admiral noted that the allies increased military budgets, but not production capacity, which resulted in higher prices.
It was previously reported that NATO will increase the production of ammunition for Ukraine and for the Alliance member countries that have transferred a large part of their weapons to Ukraine.
In September, the European Parliament voted for a new mechanism that should strengthen the defense industry and help EU countries modernize their weapons.
