The Daily Mail writes about this with reference to a secret report from Great Britain.
According to the publication, the accident on board occurred on August 21 during a mission in the Yellow Sea. The report said 55 Chinese sailors were likely killed. Among them were 22 officers.
The submarine likely hit the chain and anchor obstacles that the Chinese Navy used to capture US and allied submarines. The malfunction of the ship after the incident turned out to be catastrophic – the on-board oxygen system failed and poisoned the entire crew.
UK officials believe the death appears to have been caused by a lack of oxygen due to a system malfunction on the submarine when it encountered a chain and anchor obstacle. The Chinese Navy uses them to stop US and allied submarines.
It is reported that it took six hours to repair and surface the vessel. As a result, the crew died due to a fracture in the on-board oxygen system. There is no independent confirmation of the death of Chinese submariners in the public domain yet.
At the same time, China denied information about the accident and called the reports about it “completely false.”
