Iran’s Supreme Court has sentenced to death the man who carried out an armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran in January 2023. Azerbaijani television channel AzTV reported this on October 2.
We are talking about Yasin Huseynzade, who on January 27 exploded in the building of the Azerbaijani diplomatic service armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and killed the head of the security service. Two other guards were injured.
The Azerbaijani authorities, after the incident, qualified by the country’s President Ilham Aliyev as a terrorist attack, decided to evacuate all embassy employees in Tehran and their family members.
Currently, only the country’s consulate general in Tabriz is functioning.
