The White House tried to include a compromise of $6 billion for Ukraine in the draft budget until mid-November, but this initiative did not get enough votes.
The US House of Representatives has approved temporary funding for the government, to avoid a so-called shutdown. This was reported by The Washington Post on Saturday, September 30.
It was indicated that the House of Representatives passed a resolution to extend the government funding for 45 days with 335 votes in favor. One Democrat and 91 Republicans voted against the bill.
The short-term funding bill includes disaster relief, continuation of the federal flood insurance program, but no aid to Ukraine.
Now the Senate must approve the bill before 12:01 Sunday (until 19:01 Kyiv time) to avoid a shutdown.
The threat of a US government shutdown is related to the position of some Republicans. They blocked the adoption of the bills in the budget for the next fiscal year because of the apparently unnecessary cost.
They also oppose aid to Ukraine. The White House tried to include a compromise of $6 billion for Ukraine in the draft budget until mid-November, but this initiative did not get enough votes.
At the same time, the Joe Biden administration plans to achieve the allocation of additional funds of $40 billion, of which $24 billion should be allocated to Ukraine.
