The Kremlin leader is distorting the world image and trying to put pressure on the West in the hope that they will reconsider their decision on sanctions, the Secretary of State believes.
Russia is blocking Ukrainian grain exports, thus blackmailing the world into a worsening food crisis. This was announced on Monday, June 6, by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in a speech at a round table in Washington, Ukrinform quotes.
“President Putin has blocked food shipments and is aggressively using his propaganda machine to dispel or distort responsibility because he hopes the world will surrender and sanctions will be lifted. In other words, it’s just blackmail,” Blinken said.

Also, the head of the US State Department pointed out that Russia is “stealing Ukrainian grain exporters” to sell it itself and benefit from it.
Blinken stressed that Russia is contributing to a serious deterioration in the situation with hunger outside the Ukrainian borders, especially in African countries.
The U.S. Secretary of State urged the entire world to “respond promptly and collectively to this emergency.”
In turn, State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a briefing that Ukraine should play an important role in negotiations on deblocking ports using grain, and the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Turkey will not solve the problem.
He stressed that Washington would follow the Russian minister’s visit to Turkey, but believed that one trip was not enough to resolve the issue of unblocking grain exports.
“I am confident that one meeting will not solve this problem. This challenge requires the integration of Ukraine into a central role,” Price said.
Recall that Ukraine is not ready to consider the issue of grain exports through Belarus, said President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The best guarantee for ensuring the export of grain by sea, according to Zelensky, is the supply of the necessary weapons-anti-ship missiles.
