Andrei Naumov was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of money laundering.

The High Court of the Serbian city of Niš on Friday, September 29, sentenced the former head of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the SBU, Andrei Naumov, to one year in prison on charges of money laundering. This was reported by the Balkan service of Radio Liberty.

According to lawyer Naumov, the defense considers the verdict to be groundless and will appeal it.

In Ukraine, Naumov was charged with two charges: misuse, embezzlement of property or its property by abuse of official position and abuse of power or official position, as well as fraud and causing damage to the state in the amount of more than 3.2 million hryvnias.

In early June 2022, the former general was detained at the border crossing between Serbia and North Macedonia with undeclared funds: more than 600 thousand euros, about $125,000 in cash and jewelry.

Serbian police announced that the money and diamonds found during the car inspection were believed to be from criminal activity, after which Naumov was charged with money laundering and taken into custody.

In July 2023, the High Court of Nis rejected Ukraine’s request to extradite Naumov.

According to journalists, Naumov, accompanied by many people, left Ukraine on February 23, 2022, and in March, searches were conducted at some of his addresses in the case of treason. On March 31, President Vladimir Zelensky removed Naumov from the rank of brigadier general.
