In recent weeks, fighters previously associated with a private military company (PIK) have apparently begun to arrive in Ukraine individually and in small groups, joining various so-called voluntary units, the authors of the information write. The number of returnees could be up to several hundred people.
Wagner stopped fighting in Ukraine until early June 2023, even before the unsuccessful uprising on June 24 and the death of PIK founder Yevgeny Prigozhin two months later. The exact status of the fighters who arrived in Ukraine is unclear, but it is likely that they were transferred to units of the official forces of the Russian Ministry of Defense and other VAT.
The latest Intelligence update on the situation in Ukraine is September 29, 2023.

According to some reports, Wagner fighters are drawn to Bakhmut: their experience is probably especially in demand in this sector. Many Wagnerites are familiar with the area where the front line now lies and the tactics of the Ukrainian military, since they fought in the same territory last winter.
The theory about the transfer of “Wagnerites” to units of the Ministry of Defense can also be supported by the meeting of President Vladimir Putin with the ex-commander of the Wagner PPK Andrei Troshev, which the Kremlin announced on Friday, September 29.
Press secretary Dmitry Peskov told news agencies that the ex-commander of the Wagner PPK is already allegedly working in the Russian Ministry of Defense.
