President Vladimir Zelensky paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Nazis’ mass execution of civilians in occupied Kyiv during World War II. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian head of state on Friday, September 29.
The ceremony was also attended by the Righteous Among the Nations Vasily Nazarenko, relatives and descendants of the victims of Babyn Yar, the Righteous, former prisoners of the Nazi ghetto and concentration camps, and rabbis.
Zelensky installed a lamp on the Menorah memorial sign on the territory of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve of Babi Yar. Representatives of Jewish religious organizations read a memorial prayer.
“Thank you for finding the opportunity to be here today, for remembering the victims of Babyn Yar, Nazi repressions, the Holocaust. Thank you to the Jewish religious representatives who prayed for the memory of the victims of Babyn Yar, ” said the president during a conversation with the participants of the event.
Vladimir Zelensky noted the heroism of righteous people in the world.
“It is very important to always remember history, not to forget. Because “Never again!” are not empty words,” the president emphasized.
Remind you that in Ukraine on September 29-30 they honored the memory of the victims of Babyn Yar – one of the greatest tragedies in the history of Ukraine during the Second World War.
